Project area located in city of Hornell, Steuben County, New York. Project area contiguous with PIN 6751.63, see PAF Report no. 154; approximately three-quarters mile southeast of PIN 6084.25, see PAF Report no. 288; one and one-half miles south of PIN 6096.00, see PAF Report no. 1. Spans Canisteo River: bridge replacement, BIN 2-21821-0. Paragraph 3 [Phase I Reconnaissance] archaeological examination. Survey methods: file search, interviews, literature and document search, surface inspection, shovel test pits. No prehistoric sites identified. Five historic structures identified, including bridge to be replaced. Artifacts: bone, shell, nails, coal, cinders, brick, mortar, plaster, glass, historic ceramics, redware, porcelain. Recommendations: report contains no specific recommendations. This report includes fifteen maps, artifact catalog, four building-structure inventory forms, thirteen photographs, along with an essay on the project area potential for cultural resources.
